[For Those Concerned About Zoom's Risks] Google Meet Is Great! Why You Should Still Use Zoom

The coronavirus pandemic has rapidly increased the number of people working remotely and made the online meeting tool Zoom famous.
But with concerns about Zoom's security, many people may be hesitant to use it or wondering whether another tool would be better.
Even so, you should learn to use Zoom.
I Prefer Google Meet
In fact, I prefer Google Meet to Zoom.
The audio quality is better than Zoom's, and recordings are stored in Google Drive.
You don't need to install software on your computer, and the streamlined experience of opening it from Gmail and adding it to Google Calendar along with your scheduled meeting is very comfortable.
Even so, I think you should learn to use Zoom.
Zoom Has Become the Industry Standard for Online Meetings
The coronavirus pandemic has brought a sudden increase in online meetings, webinars and online conferences, and there seems to be an assumption that Zoom will be used.
In other words, Zoom has become the industry standard, and at the same time an unspoken understanding has emerged: “Please at least make sure you know how to use Zoom.”
In fact, it is not unusual to receive a Zoom URL in an email arranging a meeting once the date and time are settled.
By contrast, a tool such as Google Meet that is not the industry standard may lead to situations where:
- The other party rejects it because they have never used it.
- Unfamiliarity with its controls affects the proceedings.
These are possibilities.
Security and Feature Improvements Are Frequent
Although there are said to be security concerns, it is an industry-standard tool and updates are frequent.
Perhaps you don't need to worry excessively about security or dissatisfaction with current features.
Most companies are unfamiliar with remote work, so what matters more is simply using it.
A good approach might be to improve your remote working skills alongside the tool.
History Repeats Itself in Assessments of Tools, Too
The assessments of Zoom's security remind me of Microsoft Windows.
Windows has often been the subject of security debates, but that doesn't mean the Mac is overwhelmingly superior in security.
Of course, people have their preferences: Mac over Windows, or Google Meet over Zoom.
However, to keep business running smoothly, it would be better to become familiar with using Zoom first, and then switch to another tool.
