Why I Started Offering Japanese Copy Proofreading on Fiverr

Recently, I started something a little new on Fiverr.
I review Japanese marketing copy written by people and companies outside Japan, and polish it so it reads naturally to Japanese readers. Landing pages, emails, product descriptions — that kind of thing.
"Why this, and why now?" Honestly, there are three reasons.
I feel my English isn't what it used to be
First, something I've noticed myself: my English has gotten rusty compared to a few years ago.
That doesn't mean I've lost interest in working with people overseas. If anything, it made me ask a different question — where can I actually deliver real value right now?
I'm a native Japanese speaker, and I've spent years working in marketing. Alongside running my company, I also DJ and produce music under the name EMI515.
So instead of trying to compete in English, why not check Japanese copy that overseas teams have written for the Japanese market, through a Japanese reader's eyes? That felt like a place where my experience could really help.
Because AI is writing Japanese now
Second, the rise of AI.
With AI and machine translation, companies outside Japan can now put together Japanese copy surprisingly easily. That's a genuinely good thing.
But copy that is correct and copy that feels natural to a Japanese reader are still not quite the same.
Sometimes the meaning comes through, but the tone is oddly stiff. Sometimes a phrase that works in English comes across as far too pushy in Japanese. Even the final call to action — "sign up," "buy now" — can leave a very different impression depending on a single word.
I don't think marketing copy is finished just because the grammar is right.
Who are you talking to? What do you want them to feel? What should they do next? That's what I want to look at.
If AI is writing the first draft, then there's all the more reason for a human to take the final look. That's how I see it.
And then there's the weak yen
The third reason is a very practical one.
With the yen staying weak, I wanted to try taking on work from overseas clients and earning in foreign currency.
Nothing dramatic — I simply want to offer what I'm good at to people outside Japan too. Fiverr felt like the right place to start.
What I actually do
With this service, I review Japanese copy you already have: landing pages, promotional emails, product descriptions and so on.
Beyond typos, I check whether anything reads unnaturally, whether the tone fits your product and your readers, and whether your CTA is clear.
Japanese drafts translated or generated with AI are perfectly fine.
Where it helps, I add a before-and-after table and explanations in English, so you can see exactly what changed and why. We'll confirm the exact scope before you order.
This isn't a translate-from-scratch service. It's about taking the Japanese you already have and making it natural and easy to understand for Japanese readers.
I've only just started, but I'm excited to give it a real try.
If this post caught your interest, feel free to place an order.
Send me a message on Fiverr first, and I'll look at your copy and target audience and let you know what I can cover.
